State Rep. Mike Harris today invited residents of north-central Oakland County to schedule a meeting ahead of his office hours, which will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The Michigan Association of Health Plans awarded a $2,500 Health Equity Grant to On A Dragonfly’s Wings, a Waterford nonprofit focused on supporting mental health and preventing suicide by breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health needs.

“This party-line ruling plunges workers and small businesses into a world of chaos. Restaurants and other businesses will have to raise their prices, and the tipped workers who wait tables and mix drinks will wind up with a pay cut — if they don’t lose their jobs.”

“Education and school safety will both suffer setbacks under this misshapen spending plan. I voted against the budget because I’m focused on helping kids learn, supporting good teachers, and keeping students and staff safe.”

“Today, like so many other Michiganders, I have a heavy heart and a deep sense of outrage. In just one month, Michigan has lost three courageous law enforcement officers: Oakland County Deputy Brad Reckling, Hillsdale County Deputy William Butler Jr., and now Melvindale Police Officer Mohamed Said.”

“Students need safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments so they can focus on learning to read, write, and do math,” said Harris, R-Waterford. “The disappointing new budget eliminates millions of dollars from safety and mental health programs at schools in our community.”

“This bad budget is loaded with big numbers but short on results for Michigan communities,” Harris said.

“The broken unemployment agency let billions of dollars slip out the door to fraudsters and faulty claims,” Harris said. “The agency needs to get its house in order, and adding more weeks of unemployment benefits will just allow criminals to rake in even more from fraud.”

“The bad actors who defraud insurers steal from all of us. Our premiums go up to pay for their theft,” said Harris, R-Waterford.

“Property taxes should support essential community services, but this proposal could tax Oakland County homeowners to subsidize museums in Detroit that they may not ever visit,” Harris said.

“When someone is injured and bleeding, others can administer immediate care to stop the bleed until professionals arrive.”
