State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) introduced a resolution today in the Michigan House of Representatives to commemorate the Detroit Red Wings on their 100th season in the National Hockey League (NHL).

“For a century, the Detroit Red Wings have been a proud part of Michigan’s identity,” said Robinson. “Their legacy of hard work, determination, and perseverance reflects the values we hold, not just in Detroit, but across every corner of our state.”

Founded in 1926, the franchise has evolved from the Detroit Cougars to the iconic Red Wings, amassing a record 11 Stanley Cup championships, the most of any U.S. based NHL team. The resolution highlights milestones such as the team’s legendary playoff streak, their more than 3,000 total wins, and the more than 1,000 players who have worn the Winged Wheel.

“The Red Wings represent more than just championships,” said Robinson. “They represent community, tradition, and pride in where we come from. Generations of Michiganders have grown up watching this team and wearing that Winged Wheel with pride. Their story is part of our story.”

The resolution also honors the team’s charitable contributions through the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, which has supported youth programs and community initiatives across Michigan.
