State Rep. Jaime Greene, R-Richmond, on Sunday issued the following statement on the death of Detective Brad Reckling, a deputy in the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office who was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday night. Reckling was a resident of Greene’s district.

“It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of Detective Brad Reckling, who was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty. Detective Reckling, a dedicated servant of our community, leaves behind his loving wife, Jackie, 3 children, one on the way, and a legacy of bravery and commitment to public safety.

“As we grieve this senseless loss, we must also recognize the critical need to support our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day. Sheriff Bouchard has called for enhanced peer-to-peer support for police departments, and it is imperative that we heed this call and prioritize the safety and well-being of our officers and their families.

“While it is crucial that the individuals responsible for this heinous act are given due process, we must also reaffirm our commitment to punishing those who murder with the seriousness their violent crimes deserve. Our officers need our support more than ever, and it is our duty to ensure they have the resources required to protect our communities.

“In this time of sorrow, let us come together to honor Detective Reckling’s memory by standing firmly behind his family and our law enforcement community. We owe it to Brad, Jackie, their children and all our officers to provide the support and protection they need.”

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said Sunday that people can support the Reckling family by contributing through Mission Oakland at this link.
